FLOWERS, Walter J.

Walter J. Flowers, 88, of Unionville, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Esther Gilberto Flowers to whom he was married for 52 years. Walter was born on Saturday, May 9, 1925 in Caribou, Me, a son of the late Walter and Harriet (Crocker) Flowers and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was retired from The Fafnir Bearing Co. as a set-up man after many years of service. Walter was an avid bowler and for many years was a member of the 300 Club of bowlers. He also enjoyed fishing, golf and playing cards at the Bristol Senior Center. For the past 15 years he would spend six months out of the year at his home in Englewood, FL. He loved being at the beach. He leaves; sons Robert Flowers (Jacqueline) of Forestville, James Flowers (Heidi) of Granby; daughter Linda Carey Carlson (Donald) of Plainville; grandchildren James Carey, Damon, Robert, Kevin, Kelsey and Jaime Flowers and Erica Neumann; 9 great-grandchildren; and his companion Dorothea Hill. He was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Neumann, a grandson, Sean Carey, brother William Flowers and sisters Pat Emond and Jacqueline Paskowski.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain where Military Honors will be accorded. The family invites relatives and friends to attend calling hours on Wednesday between 5 and 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
