AHERN, William D.
William "Bill" D. Ahern, of Avon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Bill, the son of John F. and Katherine Ahern, was born in Hartford on January 24, 1931. He grew up in Hartford and graduated from Buckley High School and the University of Hartford. Bill also served in the Army during the Korean War. He moved to Avon in 1970 and was an active member at the Church of Saint Ann. Bill worked as a controller for several companies, most notably General Time, Dresser Industries, and Darworth Industries. Bill loved vacationing at the beach and spending time with friends and family. He was quick-witted and enjoyed a good laugh. Bill was loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline (Gaucher), and their children Kevin Ahern of Avon, Maureen Costa and her husband Gary of Burlington, and Sheila Butwill and her husband Chris of Burlington. Bill adored and was devoted to his four grandchildren Erin and Natalie Costa and Katie and Alex Butwill. Bill will also be missed by his brothers Jack Ahern of Tennessee and Terence Ahern and his wife Karen of South Carolina and brother-in-law Robert Gaucher and his wife Patricia of Avon. In addition, Bill leaves several cousins, nieces, and nephews along with many close and special friends.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (November 23) from 4-7 p.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Saturday (November 24) at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Ann, Avon at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the family plot at Mt.
