William Floyd Jr. Obituary


Deacon William Floyd Jr, 90, of East Hartford, beloved husband of the late Erma R. Floyd passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014. He was born in Americus, Georgia and was the son of the late William Floyd Sr. and Daisy (Dunlap) Floyd. William served in the United States Army during the Second World War. He was a recipient of Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He also received a World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. William was employed by Pratt & Whitney where he retired after 29 years of Service. During his employment at Pratt & Whitney, William was inducted into The Quarter Century Club. Deacon Floyd loved God, family and friends and had a great sense of humor. He also was a good cook and could fix just about anything. He always encouraged everyone to seek God and to read the Bible. William is survived by three daughters, Lori Floyd (John Mobley) of Hartford, CT, Doretha Floyd of Greenville, NC and Sheila Harris of Manchester, CT and their mother Betty Floyd. He also leaves behind three sisters, Gladys (Earl) Walker of Hartford and Jessie Davis of Hartford, CT, Bernice Floyd of Americus Georgia and a brother, Lawrence Floyd of Americus, GA. Brother in Law, Lacy Davis and Daughter in Law, Andrea Floyd. William also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 21 Great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Deacon Floyd was predeceased by his sons William Floyd the III, Kenneth Floyd Sr., daughter Sheryl Floyd. Also sisters, Nan Davis, Lillian Washington, Mildred Sweeney, Katie Green, Willie May Floyd and Baby Doll Floyd. Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at 12 noon at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 570 Tower Ave, Bloomfield, with family receiving friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
