1947 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
STEPHEN L. COOPER, 67, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Friday evening, July 18, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, with his family by his side. Mr. Cooper was born May 24, 1947, in Milton, son of the late Ezra Monroe and June Simpkins Cooper. Stephen was a graduate of Boyd County High School, honorably served his country in the US Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Good Conduct and Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from CSX as a machinist, enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycles. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Laura Ann Estep Cooper; daughters Kelly Griffitts and husband Robert of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Margaret Cooper of San Antonio, Texas; one grandson, Daniel Griffitts of Catlettsburg; and a brother Larry Cooper (Dawn) of Orlando, Fla. Preceding Stephen in death were his parents, former wife Maude Cyrus Cooper, and a sister Linda Cooper Gibson. Funeral service for Mr. Cooper will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Pete Miller will officiate. Final resting place in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Military honors at the cemetery by Post 93 of Kenova and the US Army. Visiting hours are 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
