GONZALEZ, Carl G., 95, Miami resident since 1962 and one of the original homeowners of Gables by the Sea, known affectionately as the "Mayor" of Gables by the Sea, passed away on Sept. 3, 2013. He was born in Rivas Pequenas, Galecia, Spain, raised in Massillon, OH and graduated from the College of Wooster, OH. Carl served in the US Army Corps of Chemical Engineers and received the Bronze Star for his service on Guadalcanal. He earned his MBA from the American Institute for Foreign Trade and subsequently worked for Sears in Brazil. Carl retired in 1983 as the Central and South American regional manager for Dunham Bush Corp. He was a longtime member and officer of the Coral Bay Yacht Club and had a passion for sailing, which he pursued until the age of 93. Carl was also a member of South Miami American Legion Post 31. He was predeceased by his beloved younger brother Henry and is survived by his sister Nancy Adams; favorite brother-in-law Wilbur; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Della and Richard Wine. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 2:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Stanfill Funeral Home, followed by Graveside Service at 2:30 PM at Miami Memorial Park.
