Joseph J. Calabrese, 89, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2013 from complications of diabetes. Born in White Plains, NY on March 24, 1924, he graduated from White Plains High School in 1942 then worked as a bookkeeper and a leather bookbinder before learning the aircraft sheet metal trade. In 1943 Joseph entered the US Army Air Force during World War II, where he became proficient in aircraft maintenance before being honorably discharged in 1946. In 1948 he married Angela Marie Pellegrino. They moved to Miami in 1951, where Joseph worked for LB Smith Aircraft Corp., Aerodex and 18 years for Eastern Air Lines before retirement. Joseph and Angela enjoyed travelling with their children. As members of Visitation Catholic Church, Joseph and Angela became active members of the Christian Family Movement, where they met many couples and became long-time friends. Joseph was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. During his retirement years, Joseph enjoyed working at SeaVisions, a company that manufactures custom aquariums, owned by his son Gerry. Joseph is survived by his wife Angela and children: Mark (Melinda), Diane, Gerard and Angela Faulkner(Robert), grandchildren Ashley McLoughlin (John), Robert (Karyn), Christina Kiesler (Jeremy) and Thomas Faulkner; and great grandchildren: Jack and Charlee McLoughlin. He is also survived by two brothers: Tony (Rose) and Sal (Jackie) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Florence and two sisters, Ann Keys and Josephine Muhart. Visitation Tuesday, October 8 from 2:00- 9:00 PM with prayer service from 7:00-7:30 PM at Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel, 9000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. Funeral Mass, Wednesday, October 9 at 10:00 AM at Church of the Visitation, 100 NE 191 Street, Miami, FL 33179 followed by burial at 12:45 PM at South Florida Veterans National Cemetery, 6501 S.
