Manny Vila passed away on July 4, 2013, in Miami, FL after battling liver disease, he was 52. He was born in Cuba on August 5, 1960 and immigrated to the US at the age of 4. Manny is survived by his wife Susan, his mother Elba and his three children, Chris, Tommy and Aspen, his step children Victoria and Gregory, a big family of aunts, uncles and cousins and many close friends. Manny had a gift for art and built on it, earning degrees in Advertising and Design from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and Fine Arts from Florida International University. He started his career in advertising and design agencies in the 80's. Intrigued by the potential of the broadcast industry, he started working in TV in the 90's. His bilingual, bicultural experiences working in the general market and Hispanic market provided him with a unique skill set to create highly effective campaigns that earned him industry recognition. He received 14 Emmy Award nominations and 7 Emmy Award wins, 11 Promax Awards, 3 BDA Awards and 3 Addy Awards. Manny was not just a great creative himself; he had an eye for talent and was a mentor to many people throughout his career. His passion for art endures in the numerous paintings, sketches, poems and photographs that he left behind. A memorial service and viewing will be held at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn, 8200 Bird Road in Miami, on Thursday, July 11th. Viewing 4pm - 11pm, Memorial Service: 7:30pm.
