Mark Boucek Obituary

BOUCEK, M.D., MARK M., 59, of Plantation Florida and Golden, Colorado died on Feb. 26, 2009 after a long and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Boucek and brother, Braden Boucek. He is survived by his wife Lauri, sons Jack and Matt, daughter Dana, mother Betty Boucek of Naples, brothers Dr. Frank Boucek (Susan) of Naples, Dr. Robert Boucek (Barbara) of Seattle, WA, and sister Mary Beth Whittaker (Lynn) of Salt Lake City, UT. He also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues and admirers. Dr. Boucek was a world renowned pediatric cardiologist who was entirely selfless with his incredible skills throughout his career. There are many people alive and well today---along with countless families blessed with healthy, growing children---because of him. Among his many charitable humanitarian endeavors were frequent trips to Guatemala to care for young children who were void of cardiovascular medical access or unable to afford the life saving procedures Dr. Boucek was able to provide. Dr. Boucek was Director of Pediatric Cardiovascular Services at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, FL. He was Associate Director for Pediatric Transplantation for the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and an executive board member for the Pediatric Heart Failure Society of America. He served as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah College of Medicine, Director of Pediatric Cardiology and the Pediatric Heart Transplant Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Director of Pediatric Cardiology at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He was a prolific medical researcher and co-editor of the "Handbook of Cardiac Drugs-- Basic Science and Clinical Aspects of Cardiovascular Pharmacology." He was considered an expert in pediatric heart failure and transplantation and published many articles on those and other, related subjects. He held visiting professorships at universities around the country and was a frequent speaker at international medical symposia. Dr. Boucek holds a patent for a ventricular access device and method and is frequently cited in "America's Top Doctors." He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in the department of pediatrics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He then finished his fellowship in pediatrics within the section of cardiology at the University of Utah College of Medicine. The loss of this remarkable man is shared by the thousands of people whose lives he touched both personally and professionally. A service will be held at the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, Sat. An update, Dr Boucek:

My son Bill, one of your best patients, died 8/11/24, after heart/liver transplants. Who would have thought he would make it to 41, with four kids of his own. You and your team set him up for a decent life expectancy. You have my eternal respect and gratitude. Hope you can greet him and show him the sights.

As I am writing a book about our son and his life as a heart transplant, I came across this obituary. We will forever be grateful to Dr. Boucek for his medical knowledge and research because he is the primary reason our son is alive. Our son received his transplant at 2 months of age in 1994 and he turned 29 this year.

Dr Boucek is still one of my favorite people. Unforgettable. Before my son´s Fontan surgery when he was two, Dr B urged me to do something fun with him. Went to the zoo and saw the giraffes at their eye level, from an upstairs observation room, our point of view having been shifted, for the better, by Dr B. My son turns 40 this year.

March 21, 2018

Our condolences to the Boucek family. We had the pleasure of meeting Dr Mark Boucek in 1991; where our daughter Crystal was flown to Loma Linda, California for HLHS, where she received her heart transplant.

Crystal was very sick when she got there and was taken off the transplant list, Dr Mark gave her the name Crystal the Pistol because she was a fighter and pulled through to receive her transplant.

Crystal rejected her transplant in November 1992, we lost our hita on 11/6/1992, I remember calling him, when she got admitted, begging and crying for his help when he was in Colorado. He will forever be remembered in our hearts. He was one of a kind, and made the parents, and families feel like there was hope.

I, Thank him for the chance at life that he gave Crystal for those 21 months, memories that will last forever.

Dr Boucek aka Mark was a great boss while I was his secretary/echo tech for 5 years in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Utah. He was always there when a cardiac ultrasound was off. He was good at making sure I understood what I was seeing. We typed many articles

Mark,
We just finished our 31st heart transplant at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Without you this never would have happened. You were one hell of a guy, doc, dad, husband, friend, partner and fishing buddy. You are still touching lives and saving them eight years after you left us all here wondering how it could go so fast. I miss you, and know somewhere you are looking down on us with that smile and gleam in your eye, knowing we got it right. You told me "you don't need a university to have and academic program" and you were right. Now if I could just catch another sailfish........

For the family of Dr. Boucek:

My son turned 30 this week, thanks to the world-class, life-saving caring of Dr. Boucek. I never dreamed that Dr. Boucek would pass first. My son's life has been a miraculous gift, and I loved that Dr. Boucek knew this better than anyone. He was such a gift to his patients. I will always be grateful for his intelligence, down-to-earthness, and caring. He is a true hero.

Well, this a strange way to find one of the finest persons I´ve met in my life. Mary, I am sorry Mark is gone, I´ve tried to find you about 15 years back and got as far as California where your parents have moved long ago. Today, I found a USF theater program and there was your name as one of the dancers. So I looked into the last name in Internet and found that Mark had passed. This is my email [email protected] I hope you see this message, its been over 30 years since we went to school and i am sure there are a lot of stories to tell. I always knew you were going to help people, I am glad you did. Regards Leo

Dr.Boucek an amazing man with a huge heart. Our son Thomas first came to know him when he was 3 weeks old,in 1993 in Denver Childrens Hospital. Dr. Boucek gave us three years that we might not have had with Thomas. What can I say about the man who literally saved our son's life with a heart transplant at such a young age. My husband was in the Army we were stationed at Fitzsimons during the that time, and thank God he blessed Dr. Boucek with a wonderful gift that he had. Dr Boucek will be missed by so many, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and co workers.
The kind of heart pain caused by his loss unfortunately cannot be treated with medicine. God Speed Dr.B and give Thomas a hug for us...

In talking with my son about the amazing doctor he had in his early years and searching for a photograph to show him, we came upon this tragic news. Dr. Mark Boucek blessed our lives in late 1999 through 2002. From day one of our son Brendan's life, with such confidence and caring concern, Dr. Boucek assured us that he could fix Brendan's heart. He got us through such difficult times. In 2002, when I expressed to Dr. Boucek how concerned I was to have my son Brendan leaving his care as we were moving out of Colorado, he assured me that there were very good cardiologists elsewhere. Dr. Boucek, that may be true, but with such a Big Heart combined with such intelligence, you were most definitely a One-Of-A-Kind. We are so saddened to learn that the world has lost such a brilliant and wonderful person. Our hearts go out to the Boucek family and all who cherished this amazing person.

Dr. Mark Boucek touched our lives in 1985 when he savcd my daughter's life at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. We found out about his passing when my daughter was trying to find where he had moved to. She wanted to thank him now that she is all grown up. I know that he has a special place in Heaven right now, and I want to thank his family for sharing him with us. I can't imagine how many hours he spent away from his own family so that he could save people like me from the unspeakable tragedy of losing a child. I know of no way to describe how special and caring he was. I truly believe he had angel's wings hidden under his white lab coat.

Mark Boucek was a great human beeing and physician. I had the opportunity to exchange with him ideas concerning the hybrid approach in newborns with HLHS; he and myself got from Kurt Amplatz the first generation of flow-restrictors to create the Hybrid stage I completely in the cath-lab; he has this idea realized and created the first minimal invasive stage I on the WORLD in the cath-lab; he has had an vision which will be real in near future; I loved his Personality behind his Medical Mission. He was a bright, and caring person; and will be forever remembered not only by his family, patients, colleagues, but also from friends worldwide, particularly by myself,a brother in Hybrid approacH!

Mark Boucek was a great person and physician, always committed to improving the health of the children all around the globe. I had the opportunity to work with him during a Medical Mission trip to El Salvador (where I am originally from). He was a bright, fun and caring person; and will be forever remembered by his family, patients, colleagues and friends.

Dr. Boucek was an awesome doc that knew how to make the scariest times for parents seem not so scary. He took care of my son Jordan @ Childrens Hospital in Denver. He was greatly missed when he left Denver, but I knew that their were other families that needed a dr. like him. But with this sad news he will always be remembered in our hearts for what he did and had setup for my son.

Our Daughter Julia was a patient of Dr. Boucek in Denver and immediately we knew what a special Dr./man we had working with our daughter's heart. He moved during her second year and we missed him so much. It made us appreciate, even more, the Dr. he was. When we moved to Florida we immediately looked him up and he was once again her Dr. What an amazing person he was, so loving, patient, gentle, giving...a person we should all aspire to be. When we received the letter of his passing we all cried. A huge loss for pediatric cardiolgy and especially for all the lives in this world that he touched. Dr. Boucek truly found his purpose in life and so many of us were blessed by it. Thank you God for giving us such an amzing man! Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Mark Boucek. He was a kind tall man with a great personality and a warm smile. He made me feel welcome at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Cardiology department on my first job in the cardiac research department back in 1990. He was also a part of the Heart Care International team where he donated his services to heart disease stricken children in Central America. He will be missed. I will always remember his kindness and warm smile.

April 16, 2009

Dr. B, we just learned of your passing at Jakes vist to Childrens Hospital in Denver today. We both cried all the way home. You were our rock. At five weeks old you took Jakob in your hands and from there on did what you did best-made him better and gave us life. Jake is now on the honor roll at Columbine High School and on this weekend, that has always been so difficult, we must now face the world without your loving and gentle spirt in it. Jake lost his father to MS in 2006. Richard loved you so and knew that with you around us we could get through anything. Now you are together. God has been too unfair to take such good men. Jake, Michael and I will grieve heavily this weekend and years to come for your absence. May your family know how great your spirt is and how loved you are. Now, as you would always say to us when we faced another procedure, "don't worry. It's just a walk in the park." Now that park is harder to get through. We know that you are there and watching over us all. We love you Dr. B. Stay close to us all. With much love and graitude, The Ryan Family.

Mark you were my best friend even though we were apart for all these years I always knew you were close by.

AS high school classmates at Christopher Columbus high school I always admired you intelligence and athletic ability.

I had look forward to being your roomate at Tulane University in New Orleans I dream always was to go to Notre Dame and when I got my acceptance to Notre Dame you were so gracious and understanding to my change It was a very hard decision and to this day I don't know if it was the right decision I really missed you all thsoe years.

Your proffesional accomplishment are unmatched and again we had a chance to be together in Oralando when you were given the position of Chairman of the Pediatric Cardiolgy Department but I knew it was not for you. The scholarship of the hosiptal could not match and understand what it would take to be a renown Pediatric departmentand it was not right for you. Finally we got back together in Florida and I so sad we never got together. As a Plastic Surgeon I could tell you were proud of me and that always made me feel special.

After our reunion at the Biltmore I had written a not to myself to call and come down and see you at your hospital and to this day it is still in my notpad on my I Phone.

Mark As the Chairman of the American Cancer society I will dedicate the rest of my years to advancing the cure of Pancreatic cancer.

Mark I'm so sad but I will not cross your name off my list until I see you in Heaven. I love You DR Shorty F arrell

Our son Dillon had a heart transplant under Dr. Boucek's care in Denver over 8 years ago. We were sad to see him leave Denver, but still very thankful for the program he built there. Our son is doing great, and it is because of Dr. Boucek. Our prayers are with his family at this time.

I knew Mark when he was a little boy as the Boucek family lived behind us in Coral Gables. All the Boucek boys are a part of my youth and add to my memories of those long ago, wonderful days of growing up in the Gables. We had alot of softball games and other times of running around "the hood". Mark's parents were wonderful people and produced wonderful sons who apparently have all given of themselves to better the lives of others. My thoughts are with the family at this time of great sorrow in losing such a young doctor who has done such good. Love to all the Bouceks.

I received the news of Dr Bouceks passing today. Our son Brandon was diagnosed with HLHS in 2003. He was transplanted at the ripe age of 11 weeks.
Thanks to Dr. Boucek and his team we know the sound of our son's laugh, how great his hugs are, and how infectious his smile is.
We are so blessed to have Dr. Boucek touch our lives like he has so many others. He will be greatly missed.

I am so terribly saddened to hear of Dr. Bouceks passing. My son Kaleb was diagnosed with hypo-plastic left heart by Dr. Boucek in 1994 and was transplanted at the age of 3 months. Dr. Boucek was my security through it all! His compassion and tenderness was so obvious when I walked in Kalebs hospital room and caught Dr. Boucek changing his diaper..He was wet he replied. He was One of a kind and will be greatly missed!

God Bless,

Dear Boucek Family, I worked for Mark as his Data Coordinator in 1995. He was the most charismatic, brilliant and charming person that I have ever met. The "transplant families" loved him and trusted him completely. I am so very sad to hear of his passing. It just doesn't make sense. I feel honored to have known him. I am so sorry for your loss. I pray for all of you.
Sincerely,

The Whitley Family sends their loving thoughts and prayers to Dr. Boucek's family. After reading the guest book all of our thoughts about what a wonderful person Mark was have been confirmed over and over. We were so fortunate to have our daughter Cailtin who was born in 1997 be one of Dr. Boucek's hypoplastic/heart transplant patients at The Children's Hospital in Denver. He ALWAYS put the kids first, before anything else. He gave us 4 months with our daughter (mostly at home) that we will always treasure and never be able to thank him enough for. He understood the importance of having the child and the family together. His innovative and progressive ideas as well as his true love for helping these children is what I remember most. He had such a calming effect on my husband and I everytime he would come in and see Caitlin. I also so appreciated his support after Caitlin passed away. Especially his support of the From the Heart Golf Tournament that we would hold in Caitlin's honor. He touched so many lives and was truly a man for others. I hope in some way seeing how Mark touched so many lives brings comfort to you during this time of sorrow. You remanin in our prayers.
Blessings

Dr. Boucek was my son's doctor at The Children's Hospital, Denver. I am deeply saddend to hear of his passing. He was a great comfort to me when Jacob received his heart transplant at 6 months of age. Jacob is now 10. Dr. Boucek was a very caring man, who seemed to have all the time necessary to answer family questions. His actions have had a profound affect on people and their perspectives of life, and the great gift that it is. He has touched so many in an extremely positive, uplifting way. I will miss him dearly. May God hold him and give him everlasting care. Again, my prayers are with Dr. Boucek and his family.

Although I have only spoken to Dr. Boucek on the phone, I have the pleasure of teaching his daughter at the medical school. She is both intelligent and compassionate and well on her way to becomming a wonderful pediatrician (I hope!) Such a daughter MUST be a reflection of the father and I hope Mark knew what a good job he did in raising her.

I met Dr. Boucek when my grandson, Gage Ferguson was in Children's Hospital in Denver. He received a heart transplant in July, 2004. My daughter told me that one day when Gage was fussy, he took him from the nurse and held him in one of his large hands and he immediately quieted and Dr. Boucek said, "That's how you do it."
God bless and comfort you all,

Our prayers to the Boucek family. My daughter, Marie, is a happy, healthy, loving, 10-year-old - thanks to a heart transplant in 2000 at Denver Children's Hospital, under the wonderful care of Dr. Boucek.

Prayers, also, go to Chris Mashburn, as I am certain this is a great loss to her, too.

Julia Murrow

March 10, 2009

The Murrow family sends our love and prayers to Dr. Boucek's family -- all of you because we knew him so long and saw him so much that we feel as if we know you! We moved to Denver from Los Angeles in 1995 and we were told we had to have Dr. Mark Boucek care for our two girls with cardiomyopathy. Dr. Boucek was an intrinsic part of our lives. He suffered when our children suffered and he rejoiced when our kids did well. I will never forget the grieving look in his eyes when he told me there was nothing they could do for Olivia in 2001, and then the miracle of a heart came that afternoon! His contribution to the world is without end. His work with the non-invasive, push -the-envelope stellar care for kids was exactly right. He saved both of our kids, Olivia in 2001 and from rejection in 2005 through talking to Dr. Pietra, and Natalie in 2005, and thus he saved my husband and me as well. We know he is up in heaven bouncing that ball and cracking wise and caring for the children. He wasn't finished using that brilliant mind to improve the lives of the transplant kids, and the Murrow family misses him and thanks the Boucek family for sharing him with the world.

Our thoughts & prayers are with the family of Mark Boucek. Although we did not know him well, we enjoyed seeing & speaking with him on a few occasions from his visits with his family to the "fishing" house in Everglades City, Florida where he was next door neighbors to my parents, Bob & Carol Smith. He was a special man, father, & talented doctor & the world was truly blessed to have him. He will be greatly missed!! May you the family find peace & comfort from friends & family in this difficult time.

Dr. Boucek performed a heart procedure on our daughter Brooke in Feb. 2008. Brooke was only 2 mo. old. Our cardiologist was skeptical if the procedure would work, but he knew that if anyone could do it, it would be Dr. Boucek. He did the procedure and Brooke did great.
Because of Dr. Boucek, Brooke is a healthy, happy, 15 month old.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was a wonderful, caring, special person.
Dr. Boucek fixed our daughter heart....and he will remain in ours forever.

Dr Boucek was my son's transplant cardiologist when he was at Denver Children's. We first met in the fall of 1998. While the initial meeting was rocky we came to rely on Dr. Boucek's opinion, judgement, and expertise in treating our son.

His reputation as a leader in the field to transplantation was well know. As we were researching places for our son to be treated I would always ask the other programs who we should see. Dr Boucek's name always came to the top of the list. Once we were on vacation and my son was treated in Alabama. All the transplant doctors and surgeons wanted to see Mark Boucek's Kid. They were amazed at Thomas' progress and health.

Dr. Boucek always told it like it was and really put the needs of the kids first. A true man of integrity and character!

Our deepest sympathy to the Boucek Family. It had been great having Dr. Boucek as Quelynn's Cardiologist, his caring and compassionate attitude was absoulutely fantastic. We were very saddened when he left Children's in Denver and moved to Florida. When we moved to Fort Carson, CO in 1995 he became a big part of Quelynn's life and his care all the way to transplant. I remember him telling me one day "If you ever cut your long red hair I may never recongize who you are" " He said when he had to come find the family to talk with us about Quelynn he always looked for my long hair, well he would not recongize me now, I cut it all off. GOD speed to you Dr. Boucek, may you rest in peace and continue on. Our family has always been thankful for you and held you up with the most respect.

Mr. Boucek lived a very full and satisfying life surrounded by many who loved and cared about him. Focus on the happy times you all shared together. Take comfort knowing that he is no longer suffering, no longer in pain. May Jehovah give you the strength to cope and endure these difficult days.

I am proud to have been a part of Dr. Boucek's Cardiac Team at Denver Children's Hospital (1993-1995) and also Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital from 2006-2008.

As a sonographer I was privileged to work closely with him on several critical cases, admiring his intense focus and dedication to quality care.
The loss of such a pioneer sorrows me deeply. Gleeful that he has paved the way for many medical advancements.

What I will always remember are the grateful faces of the families and patients that were able to have a better quality of life because of him.

Grateful,so, to have been a small part of a great, ongoing journey. Namaste.

To The Boucek Family. As the parents of Jennifer Zanon we wanted you to know how much Dr, Boucek has influenced her and how much she respected and learned from him. She enjoyed working with him and her trip to Guatemala. We know all your wonderful memories will help you at this time.

I had the chance to work with Dr. Boucek and was privileged to see him in action. He always made us listen to Faith Hill (I think to torture us) because it was the music he worked best to. It didn't take long for staff to run with the Faith Hill jokes-I know he loved it.
Now I'll never be able to listen to "This Kiss" without thinking of Dr. Boucek. What I wouldn't give to be able to fight with him again over the CD player.
To the Boucek Family:my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I first met Mark in the second grade. Over the next 50 years we competed and shared so many laughs together. As we grew older he always emphasized the importance of giving back. I always tried to live that message to treat every patient with respect and dignity regardless of the situaton. Mark was all heart. He will be sorely missed.

There’s a lot I will remember about Mark: his smile and laugh, his warmth, his jokes, but above all his dedication to his patients. He had incredible depth, compassion, and a great desire to do all he could for the children and would talk to me at length about the pain he felt when a patient was lost. I had the privilege of working with Mark in Salt Lake City and I will cherish those memories forever. The sun suddenly dimmed when I heard of his passing and I fear it will be a while before it becomes bright again. Good journey Mark!

To Mark’s family: I am deeply sorry for your loss. There's never time enough to say what we should to each other. Mark’s passing is still unbelievable to me, and my impulse is to phone him and say, “You’re all right, aren’t you?” and then tell him how grateful I am to him for teaching me and all of us in the transplant community how to be better physicians, scientists and humans.
I was fortunate to have worked with Mark in Guatemala. He was an excellent cardiologist and a remarkable man. He cared for his friends and I never knew him to be too busy to provide help and encouragement. He was gifted, kind, outspoken, optimistic, brave and fun. I’ll remember his smile and his laugh and his enjoyment of life and people. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy to the Boucek Family. I was a friend of Mark growing up from age 6 through 18 and lived across the street on DeSoto Blvd., Coral Gables, Florida. As children Mark and I would frequent the Howard Hughes Institute on Aging Studies, where Mark's farther (also an M.D.) was the Director. Here we played "hide and go seek" amoung medical and lab equipment. I think this is where Mark gained some of his facination with medicine and eventially became an excellent doctor himself.

Mark was my classmate from kindergarten through Columbus. Someone I always liked and respected. That respect only grew as I learned of his career. I was fotunate to be able to talk with him at a 20th reunion and proud to know of his acccomplishments.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family; and as sad as I am to learn of his death, my gratitude is greater that the Lord shared him with us.
May eternal light shine upon him.

As a young child Dr. Boucek repaired the "hole" in my heart at primary childrens medical center.

I am literally alive today because of this wonderful man.

I would joke with the Dr. and my mother about Dr. Gooseegg. I couldn't say his name at that time. I remember his smiling comforting demeanor.

My thoughts are with your family at this time.

To the Boucek family:
Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss. I worked with Mark for many years at Loma Linda and came to respect his advocacy for the smallest of patients. To Mark's Family-I can only imagine your loss, such a wonderful man, i had the good fortune to know him as a colleague and a friend, and read many of his remarkable publications in the literature of cardiology and transplantation, and hear his thoughtful provocative questions at meetings. But best of all, i enjoyed his sparkling smile-he always made you feel that he cared about what you had to say. I can imagine how wonderful it was to be a part of his family, or to have him as your doctor. He will be missed; my prayers and thoughts are with all of you who were closest to him.

Few people have contributed as much to pediatric cardiology and to children, and very few have done it in such an individualistic way. A real iconoclast, with a wicked sense of humor. He will be missed. My deepest sympathy to his family

March 2, 2009

My prayers are with the Boucek families, the cardiology families that Mark has touched. He will certainly leave a void in this world that noone will be able to fill. He helped many children improve the quality of their lives and assisted other pediatric cardiologists to improve their infant/pediatric tranplant programs and therapies.

May God provide you peace and grace during this difficult time and know that he's no longer suffering.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
