FRUMKES, MELVYN B., 85, of Miami Beach Florida passed away on 4/14/14 in Miami of natural causes. Mel was born January 19, 1929 in New York City to the parents of Irvin and Lillian Frumkes and had a twin sister Barbara. Mel lived in Long Island NY until the age 4, and then resided on Miami Beach until he went away to college. After his graduation he lived and worked in the Miami-Dade area until his passing. Mel received his B.S. from the University of Florida in 1950 and received his law degree from the Univer-sity of Florida in 1953. Mel started practicing Law in 1957 with Jack Abbott. They formed a partnership that lasted for the fol-lowing 22 years. While in private practice he also served as a prosecutor for the City of Miami Beach from 1960-1961. From 1970-1982 Mel served as a member of the board of directors of the Miami Beach Bar Association. Has been a member of AAML Academy of matrimonial lawyers from 1979 to pre-sent and President from 1983-1985. In 1979 Mel being the sole principal of Melvyn B. Frumkes PA, opened specializing in Matrimonial and Custody Consultations and Litigation. Mels passion for the law never waned, neither did his eagerness to educate his colleagues and the world around him. He is the author of Frumkes on Divorce taxation now in its 9th edition. He was still practicing and very active in all his organizations until the day of his passing. Melvyn is survived by his wife Skeeter King, children Sherri (deceased) Mark and Steven, grandson Mi-chael, great granddaughter Lilly, Stepson Brandon and Grandkids Maxwell and Avery. He is remembered by most as a tenacious Litigator and been listed since 1983 in "the best lawyers in america". In 1984 the "Miami News" named him as one of three of Miami's Toughest Divorce Lawyers and In 1987 the "National Law Journal" named him as 1 of the 43 of the nations top divorce lawyers. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandparent and Great Grandparent. His smile was as big as life when it came to his Family. And he brought big smiles to his grandkids every moment he could. Services will be Friday, April 18th at Temple Israel in Miami at 1pm. Donations in lieu of flowers to the American Jewish Committee or the Jewish Museum of Florida
