BECKER, DR. SUSAN KELLY, 50, died on May 1, 2014 in Miami. Born May 10, 1963 in Winchester, Massachusetts, Susan was the daughter of Christopher and Antonieta Kelly, and big sister to Chris Kelly. Susan graduated from Hialeah Miami Lakes in 1981, and was among the first freshmen admitted into Florida International University. After one semester, Susan enrolled in Duke University and graduated three and a half years later. At Duke, Susan was a double major, earning degrees in political science and psychology. Susan's passion for psychology was further developed upon her enrollment in both the Masters and Doctorate Programs in the University of Miami Counseling Psychology Program. Whether it was serving as a highly sought after clinic supervisor, or whether she was the teacher of choice for high demand graduate courses, Susan remained a popular adjunct faculty member for 15 years. After also concurrently working in South Miami Hospital's Child Development Center for several years, Susan opened her own private practice in Coral Gables. During the last 15 years, Susan helped many in personal crisis. Susan married Michael Becker in 1988. Susan's pride and joy were her two sons, Daniel and Sean. Over the next twenty years, Susan successfully balanced the demands of her practice with her leadership in the Association for Clinical Hypnosis and Florida Society for Clinical Hypnosis and with the rigors of parenting. Daniel recently graduated from Princeton University in 2013, and younger son, Sean "pumpkin" a freshman at Ransom Everglades School. Although Susan loved reading, music and art; having two athletic boys made her learn to appreciate sports as well. Susan's dedication as a master therapist, as well as her dedication to being a devoted wife and mother will be cherished forever by those who she touched. Susan's' empathy for those who she cared for will serve as a model for all others for years beyond her lifetime. Susan certainly left this world a better place than she found. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Susan's name to Children's Bereavement Center, 7600 S Red Road, Suite 307, Miami, FL. 33143 or www.childbereavement.org. Visitation 4 PM until Service time 5 pm Tuesday, May 6th VAN ORSDEL CORAL GABLES CHAPEL.
