Barbara Anne Smart (Gastaldi), 78, of Coronado, Calif., passed away Jan. 19, 2014, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Barbara was born June 29, 1935, to Hobert William Smart and Macie Irene Casebeer in Texas County, Mo.
She graduated from El Dorado High School in Placerville, Calif.
Barbara's pride and joy were her five children from her marriage to Albert Hazen Gastaldi. She was a stay-at-home mother from 1957 to 1971.
In 1972, she earned her realtor's license in Klamath Falls, and enjoyed working with people to find them homes. Barbara worked as a licensed realtor in Oregon (Klamath Falls and Coos Bay) and California (Woodland and San Diego).
She was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for almost 31 years. She valued the principles of the program and made many lifelong friends through her years in the program. They were like her second family.
Survivors include her five children and their families, Jeff and Rochelle Gastaldi of Anchorage, Alaska, Tom and Lu Gastaldi of Klamath Falls, Chris Gastaldi of Eugene, Ore., Vince and Lisa Gastaldi of Isle of Palms, S.C., and Toni Anne Steward of Kenai, Alaska; grandchildren, Gena and Kevin, Angela, Hannah, Jenna, Jordan and Luke, Christine, Weston, Breanna, Stephanie, and Kyla; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Cash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Macie and grandson, Sean Thomas Gastaldi.
A memorial will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 2, in Alano Club in Coronado.

Barbara's remains will be buried in Klamath Falls at Mt. Laki Cemetery next to her grandson, Sean Thomas as she requested.
The family of Barbara would like to give a special thank you to Christina Morales, her caregiver for the past five years, and two of her dearest friends, Dottie and Palma. Your friendship and devotion to our mom will be remembered always.
