Gerald "Jerry" Pierce, 86, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, in Bakersfield, Calif. He was born Oct. 19, 1927, to Percy and Gertrude (Roufs) Pierce in Carpinteria, Calif. In 1929, the family moved to Merrill, Ore., and then in 1941 to Klamath Falls, Ore. In 1945, he enlisted in the Navy and served on active duty, stationed on Guam until 1948. He remained in the reserves until 1953. On Oct. 19, 1957, he married Charlotte Roland. Together, they raised two children, John and Jennifer. Jerry worked for many years for International Harvester until it left Klamath Falls. He then worked for Klamath Filter until his retirement. He also enjoyed his side business of repairing hydraulic equipment for various businesses. Jerry was proud to be an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls. He greatly enjoyed helping others, giving back to the community and prided himself on the many friendships he had with people in the Southern Oregon area. In 2006, Jerry and Charlotte relocated to Tehachapi, Calif., to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a lifelong member of the NRA. He was also a "master" jigsaw puzzle builder, which he enjoyed doing with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marjorie Barlow and Evelyn Biehn. Jerry is survived by Charlotte, his wife of 56 years; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Pierce of King City, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Jack Dressel of Tehachapi; granddaughter, Kate Dressel of Tehachapi; grandsons, Alex Pierce of Corvallis, Ore., Jeff Pierce of King City, Gray Dressel of Tehachapi, and Jack Dressel of Tehachapi; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Connie Pierce of San Diego, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at Bakersfield National Veterans Cemetery in Arvin, Calif.
