Donna Rone Monte passed away on Sunday, June 16, in the presence of her family at her home on Camano Island, WA.
Donna was born Donna May Rone on May 15, 1933 in Seattle, WA. The child of Kristine and John Rone, she was the youngest of four children. In keeping with their Norwegian heritage, Donna's family resided in Ballard where she attended Ballard High School.
Donna received a BA degree at the University of Washington. While at the U of W, she joined the Sigma Kappa Sorority and acted as rush chair her senior year. After graduation Donna worked for Union 76.
Donna married Fred Monte on September 24, 1960 and they moved to Bellevue, WA in January of 1962, where they were blessed with two children, Scott and Melissa. Donna and Fred moved to Camano Island in October of 1989.
During her years in Belle-vue Donna was active in several guilds, and many school support activities, including helping in the school library at Wilburton Grade School. Donna loved to play the organ and piano, was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. Donna was also a dedicated walker and usually met with neighborhood lady friends every morning for a daily walk, rain or shine.
Donna was a devoted "Grammie" and when twin sons were born to Melissa she spent many days commuting to Bellevue to give assistance.
Donna is survived by her husband, Fred; son, Scott of Kent; daughter, Melissa Beckman (husband, Eric) of Bellevue; and grandsons, Evan and Drew Beckman of Bellevue.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin Rone and
Kenneth Rone; and sister, Gladys Cleven.
A memorial service will held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Rd., Ca-mano Island, 98282.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Providence Hospice Care of Snohomish County or Caring Bridge are welcomed.
