George R. Bernethy, 92, a resident of Sultan, WA, passed away July 13, 2013. George was born May 11, 1921 in Granite Falls, WA to Ruth and Robert Bernethy. He moved to Sultan at eight months old, and was a lifelong resident. George graduated in 1939 from Sultan High School and attended Everett Community College for two years. He served with the 501st regiment of the 101st Airborne during World War II. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. George was a logger for 25 years and in the construction industry for 25 years. After retirement he worked for the State of Washington as a nuisance control trapper, up until he was 90 years old.

George is survived by his sons, Dick Dunlap (Linda), and Raymond Bernethy
(Lynda); and daughter,
Connie Enberg (Keane); grandchildren, Diane, Dick Jr., Jon, Darlene, Tami, Jeff, Darren, and Brian; and numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Broughton Bernethy; and siblings, Bob, Doris, and Bill.
Graveside services are to be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Sultan Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements are under the care of Purdy, Kerr and Dawson of Monroe, WA.
