Henry Haverlock died peacefully April, 28, 2013, surrounded by family in the home he built with his
wife 57 years ago. Henry ("Hank" to his friends) was born August 10, 1925 in Everett to parents, Jurrien and Greitze Haverlock. He grew up in Snohomish, WA and graduated from Snohomish High School in 1943.
Hank served his country in World War II with the 77th Infantry Division in the Philippine Islands and in Okinawa. He was awarded several medals, including a Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Stars, an Army Of Occupation (Japan) Badge, and Philippine Liberation Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Hank was a member of V.F.W. #2100 of Everett.
Here at home, Hank was an avid fast pitch softball player. It was through the sport that Hank met Mildred (Millie) Heinck, who attended the games while cheering on her brother, a fellow player. Hank and Millie married May 9, 1952.
Children were important in Hank's life. In addition to raising their own daughter and son, Hank and Millie cared for over 50 foster children in their home, and many more through an in-home daycare. To many, Hank was "Papa Hank".
Hank was a trustee and active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he also sang in the choir for over 60 years. He was a member of the Everett Gospel Mission Men's Chorus and a member of the friendship club.
Hank also found great joy through fishing with his son and brothers. They took many fishing trips together. Hank is now in that big pond in the sky!
Hank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bert and Peter; and sisters, Alice Bachman and Margaret Cook.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Mildred; son, Robert (Kristin) Haverlock of Edmonds, WA; daughter, Meri (Patrick) Leach of Gold Bar, WA;
foster daughter, Sarah
(Michael) Juntunen; sister-in-law, Gloria Heinck; grandchildren, Shelby, Joseph (Jentry), Samantha, Wyatt, Brenden and Isak; and eight great-grandchildren,
Mitchell, Courtney, Gavin, Chloe, Benjamin, Skyla,
Josie and Justin.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran choir.
