James Windsand Oas, 91, was born in Munising Michigan to Edmund and Elila Oas on December 26, 1922. He went to meet his Savior on June 14, 2014 with family by his side. When World War II broke out he enlisted in the Marines and surviving the fierce battles of Guadalcanal and Tarawa, he more than earned his stripes as one of the greatest generation. After the war, he returned and married the love of his life, Dorothy St. Martin and he had a full life, five children, and a great career in the construction industry. He and Dorothy enjoyed retirement, seeing all but two states traveling with their fifth wheel trailer. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, scuba diving, and trail riding on his "tote goat". He loved dancing weekly with their large circle of friends, card games and last but not least family gatherings. He was active in the Everett Lions Club, the Eagles Club, VFW, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by wife of nearly 69 years, Dorothy; siblings, Nancy Nelson (Bob) and Richard Oas (Beverly) of Michigan; and children, Billie Zevenbergen (Lee), Edmund Oas (Glenda), Karen Stubrud (Larry), Joseph Oas (MaryLou), and Cheryl Hansen (Chuck); 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Catholic Community Services and to Providence Hospice for their compassionate care during his illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Purdy & Walters, 1702 Pacific, Everett. on July 25, 2014. There will be a reception following at the Everett Firefighters Hall at 2411 Hewitt.
