John (Jay) Peterson

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of John Edward (Jay) Peterson. He has crossed over the bar on his final journey on the afternoon of March 22, 2013. He will be remembered and greatly missed by those he left behind.
He was born on August 9, 1922 in Seattle, WA. His father was a Captain in the Maritime Industry, piloting many ships up and down the coast from California to Alaska and back. Jay followed his father into the maritime industry going to sea at a young age. During WWII the tugs he served on were taken into service by the U.S. Army Transport. He served with honor during this time and was honorably discharged through the Coast Guard.
He met and later married the love of his life, Shirley Elaine Hall, who preceded him in death on Sept 25, 2007, after 58 years of marriage. Their favorite adventures would always find them aboard their boat either on Puget Sound and the Inland Passage, or on one of over 30 cruises.
He retired in 1979 after a 40 year history of admirable work in the towing industry in the Northwest and 30 of those years with Foss Maritime Co.
After retirement they enjoyed 20 years far from the sea in the desert of Hemet, CA where they made many new friends, played a lot of golf and cards.
When it became too difficult to care for themselves they returned to the Northwest where they could be cared for by family.
He was a member of the Propeller Club of the U.S., Port of Seattle, life member of the Society of Port Engineers of Puget Sound, life member of Ballard Elks, BPOE #827, Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society, Snohomish Tribe of Indians and a charter member of the Napier Bay Yacht Club of British Columbia, Canada.
He leaves behind sons, Ronald Lamaster, Jon Peterson; daughters, Joel (Peterson) Irby and Nayna (Peterson) Sankey; grandchildren, Jake Mannick, Cheryl Olson, Daniel Lamaster, Justin Irby, Jeffery Irby, Ryan Sankey, Kyle Sankey,
Joshua Peterson, Andrew Peterson and Kristianna Peterson; great grandchildren, Kayla Griffin, Kyle Thomas, Dakota Irby, Calvin Irby, Jonan Peterson, Joshua Peterson; along with a number of spouses to the above mentioned names.
Your family wishes you "Fair Winds and Following Seas".
