June 7, 1933 - May 5, 2014 One of six siblings, Lavern Weber was born to Jacob and Irene Weber in Isabel, South Dakota. The family moved to a dairy farm near Sultan, Wash, in 1936. After graduating from Sultan Union High School in 1952, Lavern studied at Everett Jr. College, receiving his Bachelors degree from Pacific Lutheran University in 1958. He was awarded his Masters Degree in 1962, followed by his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Washington in 1964. Lavern served on the University of Washington Medical School faculty from 1964 to 1969. Later that year, he, he joined the Oregon State University faculty and was appointed director of the OSU (Hatfield) Marine Science Center, a position he held for over 25 years. Lavern received many professional and community honors. Lavern was a man of integrity and humility who loved to mentor students and family members, and who was dedicated to his family. He is survived by his brothers, Edwin and Harlan; sisters, Agnes and Natalie; wife, Pat; children, Tim (Lisa), Peter (Anne), Pamela (Ron), and Elizabeth; and also four grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on July 26, 2014 at The Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Or.
