Born December 15, 1923 Leland Larson, longtime resident of the Lakewood and Smokey Point, WA area and grandson of Lakewood homesteaders, died January 14, 2014 at his family farm at the age of 90, surrounded by family. He graduated from Arlington HS in 1943. Soon after going into the US Navy he served on a destroyer, the USS Lowry as a gunner's mate in the South Pacific in WWII. Leland was present in Tokyo Bay at the signing of the Japanese surrender. After leaving the Navy he began to build a Jersey Dairy Farm and raise his family. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway, the VFW and The Grange. He was active in the Lakewood School District and served on the school board for eleven years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lottie Larson; and his granddaughter, Jessica Larson. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, to Shirley, his wife of 67 years; sons, Warren (Hazel), Curt (Kathy), and Daryl; grandchildren: Matt, Rachel, Kelly, Craig, Beth and Jacob; great grandchildren: Markus, Kaitlin, Kiersten, Brianna, Tristen, and Justin; great great grandsons: Landon and Lucas. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Albin; and several nieces and nephews. Loving hugs and thanks to the Hospice helpers: Laurie, Patty and Lisa. Really special ladies!!! Always in our prayers…… A Private family graveside service will be held. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Hospice program of Snohomish County.
