Dr. Lyle Elwood Ostlund Lyle Ostlund, 92, passed away on June 17, 2014 in Bothell, Washington. He was born on June 5, 1922 to Jennie Fahlstrom Ostlund and Edward William Ostlund in Everett. Graduating from Everett High School, he attended the University of Washington from 1940-1942. He then served his country in the US Army during WWII. November 21, 1945, Lyle married Patricia Carpenter in Everett. Completing his education, he received his BS and DMD degrees from U. of Oregon Dental School in 1947. Then he served his country again during the Korean War, as a Dental Officer in the US Air Force. For 50 years Lyle had a dental practice in Everett and taught dentistry at the U. of W. He also mentored fellow dentists in numerous dental study clubs that he led. Upon his retirement he was honored to be appointed as Associate Professor Emeritus. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, the American Dental Association, Washington State Dental Association, Snohomish County Dental Society, American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, Academy of Operative Dentistry, and as a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. An ardent bicyclist, Lyle rode over 50,000 miles, in all states except Alaska. He loved photography and always had his camera by his side. Family gatherings at the Lake Goodwin cabin, that his dad and uncles built in 1937, were particularly enjoyable. He had a voracious thirst for knowledge, forever wanting to learn more about everything. Lyle was a member of United Methodist Church, Everett HS and UW swim teams, Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, the Masons (Freemasonry) and the Elks Club (BPOE). He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Shirley Keith (Phil) and Lucille Deveney (Dave). He is survived by his children: Terri Brooks (Art); Kathee Ostlund McGlothin (Robert), Ed Ostlund (Robin) and Cynthia Gillespie (Doug); and sister, Dolores Earley (Hugh); eight grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. A private family burial service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett. A Celebration of the "Life of Lyle" will occur sometime in August.
