Margaret Fletcher passed peacefully into God's hands on the morning of October 27, 2013, at the age of 94, with family close by. She was born June 13, 1919 in Mineral, WA, to Julia and Cleve Little, and grew up in Edmonds, WA. She attended Edmonds Elementary and graduated from Edmonds High in 1937. She completed the University of Washington School of Nursing program, graduating in 1942 as a registered nurse. She later obtained her Master's in Public Health at the University. She married Frank Fletcher March 23, 1942, and they spent the first few years in the remote village of Tanana, Alaska, on the Yukon River. Here, she inherited the US Mail run, and in winter, used her dog sled team to deliver the mail. Upon return to Washington, they spent the next 30 some years in Edmonds. During that time, Margaret traded her nursing career for motherhood, raising four children. With the youngest in school, she resumed her career, first with Visiting Nurses of Snohomish County, then with Public Health Nursing, and finally school nursing for the Edmonds School District. Upon retirement, they built a new home in Anacortes. Their retirement years revolved around boating the San Juan's, Canada, and Alaska. Later years found them in a motor home, with trips back to Alaska (including a return to Tanana), across the USA, and several Snowbird trips to the south west. The last 17 years she resided in Clearview, WA. She was preceded in death after 66 years of marriage by husband, Frank in 2008; also by brothers, Bill and Mike Little, Murl Atkinson; son in law, Cliff Nyegaard; nephew, Mickey Little; and great grandson, Jared Miller. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Dan) Sullivan of Lynnwood; son, Keith of Elsinore, CA; daughter, Jeanne (Dag) Ferkingstad of Clearview; and son, Rick (Diane) of Arlington; sister in law, Mardelle Wilcox of Edmonds; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and close friends. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, Bauer Funeral Chapel, 701 First Street, Snohomish WA 98290. Interment will follow at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Jeanne's home immediately following the interment, directions will be available. A special thanks to Susan, Linda and Doddi of Edmonds Haven for the special care they gave Margaret in her final years.
