Patricia B. (Collins) Svendsen Patricia "Pat" Collins Svendsen passed away on December 31, 2013. Pat was born April 19, 1919 in Seattle, WA. Pat grew up in Seattle's University District. Pat enjoyed spending summers during the 1920's and 30's at her grandfather's cabin on Martha Lake in Snohomish County, swimming, fishing, boating and reading in the shade of fir trees bordering the lake. During her teenage years, Pat helped her mother and father run a boarding house in Seattle for university students during the Depression. Pat was in Seattle's Lincoln High School class of 1937. After graduating from the University of Washington with a teaching degree (and meeting her future husband Alwin Svendsen), Pat taught at schools in Rainier and Lacey, Washington. Pat and her family moved back to Martha Lake in 1949, where she and Al built their home on the site of her grandfather's original cabin. Pat and the family enjoyed activities with the 4-H and Pegasus Patrol in Alderwood Manor during the 1960's. After retiring, Pat and Al traveled to the Panama Canal, Europe, Australia and China. During her later years, Pat enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Over a thirty-year career with the Edmonds School District, Pat was a teacher at the old Edmonds High School, a teacher and counselor at Lynnwood Junior High and a counselor at Woodway High School. Pat was a long-time member of the Lincoln High's Lynx Club, the Sno-King School Retirees, and the ADK Association of University Women. Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alwin Svendsen. Pat is survived by her children, Glen Svendsen of Martha Lake, WA and Kristine McBride of Sammamish, WA, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family greatly appreciates the care Pat received while at Anderson House, Shoreline, WA, and from Evergreen Hospice Care. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship funds of the Sno-King School Retirees and the Edmonds School District #15 Alumni Association.
