Richard Lee Knudson

Richard Lee "Dick" Knudson passed away peacefully in an area hospital August 22, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was 69 years old. Dick was born September 11, 1943 in Everett and lived in Snohomish County his entire life. After graduating from Everett High School, Dick studied at the University of Washington before and after his tour of duty in Viet Nam as a member of the US Army. His meritorious service in combat was recognized when he was awarded the Bronze Star. Dick was an active member of the business community and a strong advocate for small business owners. His dedication to advancing Snohomish County included membership in the Rotary and a term as the President of the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce. As a disabled Veteran, Dick was a very visible and dedicated volunteer to a variety of service programs supporting current and former members of our nation's armed forces. He touched the lives of many fellow disabled Veterans and was a champion to many who struggled to work through the challenges of returning home. When he was not helping others, he could often be found on his Nordic Tug touring the San Juan Islands or roaming the docks of his home port, the Skyline Marina in Anacortes, sharing fish stories and enjoying the fellowship of other mariners. As a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Dick provided advocacy for private boat owners through hundreds of hours of volunteer work on the water and conducting safety inspections for other boating enthusiasts. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Ruby Knudson and his brother Brooks. He is survived by sisters Connie Gantsweg and Julie Bolser and brothers Lawrence, Bruce, Gary and Keith Knudson. Dick's quick smile, engaging personality and dedicated service to others will be missed by all he has touched in his life. A memorial service celebrating Dick's life will be held at the Spirit of Grace United Methodist Church, 3530 Colby Ave, Everett on September 21 at 2:00 p.m.
