Jan. 12, 1936 – Aug. 5, 2014 Longtime Edmonds resident, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully after a long courageous battle with cancer at the age of 78. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, his family later settled in downtown Edmonds in the late 1940's to establish Fredericksen Realty & Insurance on Main Street. Roy graduated from Edmonds High School in 1954. After which he joined the U.S. Navy and was then employed by the FAA before returning to Edmonds with his wife and newborn son, Bret in order to join his parents at their successful real estate business. Roy was a leader in the local business community before retiring in the late '80's. In retirement he enjoyed walking every day and chatting with friends and acquaintances throughout the downtown community. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and periodic winters in Palm Springs. Roy will be remembered for his warm, fun-loving, friendly and generous personality. He would never hesitate to help out a friend in need. He loved to laugh and had a sense of humor and strength to the end. As a proud and dedicated grandfather, he enjoyed Liam and Zoey to the fullest extent. He will be missed but lives on in our hearts and spirits. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace; his son, Bret and wife, Carolyn of Kirkland, Wash.; his daughter, Colleen and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Liam and Zoey of Millbrook, N.Y.; and sister, Joan Douglas of Los Angeles. Memorials may be made to an organization of your choice.
