Billy D. Whisler, 86, of Englewood, FL, formerly of Cedar Lake, Indiana, died on Mar. 31, 2013.
Born in Unionville, Iowa to Carl and Mable (Hunt) Whisler, Billy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a life member of the American Legion in Cedar Lake, IN where he had lived prior to moving to Englewood in 1972.
Billy was a police officer for Cedar Lake Police Department and retired in 1972. Once in Englewood he managed the Sea Horse Apartments which later became the Sea Oats Time Share. Then he managed the Sarasota Gun Club - Trap and Skeet.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of sixty-five years: Helen; two daughters: Kathleen and Bobbie Jo; six sons: Billy Jr., Phillip M.; Billy III, Darrel R., Michael L, Richard M. and several grand children and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wed., April 3, 2013 from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 So. McCall Rd. Funeral service will be on Thurs., April 4, 2013 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Sarasota National Cemetery. Honors will be provided by the US Navy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 in memory of Billy Whisler.
