Evelin Corsey, a native of New York, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She was 98 years young.
A graduate of New York University, class of 1935, Evelin went on to have a distinguished career in real estate at Albert B. Ashforth, a leading real estate firm in Manhattan. She soon became known as "broker to the world" and had the distinction of becoming the first woman CEO in Manhattan real estate. Retiring at the age of 80, Evelin moved to Sarasota in 1995, where she enjoyed an Epicurean stillness of the soul and the beauty the city offered. A resident of Plymouth Harbor for nearly two decades, she was blessed to have lived independently for all of those years. Evelin appreciated every moment of life-- the sweeping view of the Gulf, reading, classical music, meditation, and, above all, the love of her devoted family and friends. She actively contributed to countless charities. Because Evelin played the violin for many years and was a dedicated lover of classical music, she often supported WUSF, Sarasota Orchestra/Youth Orchestra Program, Sarasota Concert Association, and Music Academy of the West. In lieu of flower contributions, memorial donations made to any of those organizations would be appreciated. A loving, spirited soul, Evelin will be greatly missed by all those privileged to have known her.
