Dorothy G. Tuynman Obituary
Tuynman, Dorothy G.
Mar. 14, 1914 - Aug. 13, 2014
Dorothy Grace Platt Tuynman, 100, of Sarasota passed away peacefully of old age on August 13, 2014 and is now resting in peace with her husband and love of her life, William 'Bill' Tuynman.
Dorothy was born in Sarasota and lived all of her 100 remarkable years in Sarasota. Dorothy graduated from Venice Nokomis High School in 1931.
As a loving mother and caring friend she devoted her life to others, always being considerate and willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.
She loved to cook, sew, work in the yard, grow her own garden, and go fishing or shrimping. Dorothy retired from the City of Sarasota Fire Dept. in 1977 after serving 25 years as office manager and secretary to the fire chief. Firemen at the main station affectionately called her 'Mother' because she watched out for everyone! She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and daughter, Jean Wunderlich.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Guess; son, Richard Bridgman, both of Sarasota; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held in Englewood at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice - 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, or Lemon Bay Historical Society - PO. Box 1245, Englewood, Fla 34295.
Toale Brothers is in charge of arrangements.
