Sep. 26, 1933 - Jan. 19, 2013
Frederick F. Butcher, Jr., 79, of Sarasota, Florida, went home to be with the Lord and his darling wife of 45 years in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 19, 2013 from complications following a recent surgery.
Born September 26, 1933 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, son of Frederick F. Sr. and Geneva (Doak) Butcher, Fred served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict. He married his wife Charlotte J. (VanKirk) in March of 1955. Fred worked in the highway construction industry for many years upon discharge from the military. In 1982 he developed a highway maintenance and equipment program which revolutionized the industry. He founded SBR Systems and retired in 2007.
He was a member of the Shriners/Sahib Mariners of Sarasota, Florida, the Elks Lodge of Sarasota, the East Liverpool Riddle Lodge #315 of the Free and Accepted Masons and the former Gulfwind Marine Boat Club in Sarasota.
A man of great faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Fred's most endearing sense of humor was infectious, his optimism eternal, fortitude unmatched and his love for his family immeasurable. He will be so deeply missed.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, "Charce" in February of 2000 and a sister, Jacquelyn Butcher Umensetter in April, 1999. A beloved father, brother and grandfather, he is survived by his son, Fred F. Butcher of North Carolina; daughter, Lisa (Butcher) Braaksma of Florida; his two sisters, Patricia (Butcher) Trotter of North Carolina and Nancy (Butcher) Czech of East Liverpool, and brother, Greg Butcher of Washington, as well as 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Friends may visit Friday, January 25, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dawson Funeral Home. Pastor Larry Rose will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery in Hookstown.
