James Mitchell, Jr., 87 of Sarasota, Florida, died peacefully Saturday, July 19, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Miami, FL and grew up in Brunswick, GA. Jim joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and was stationed in Japan after the war and this started a lifelong love of travel. Upon his return, Jim received a pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia in 1950 and began his career by working in his father's drug store. He met the love of his life, Martha Collins in Brunswick and they were soon married. Jim joined Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co. where he worked for the next 31 years. While working for Eli Lilly, he and his family lived in Bogota, Columbia, Manila, Philippines and Indianapolis, IN before he and Martha returned to Florida in 1975 where he later retired.

Jim was preceded in death by Martha, after 52 years of marriage. He is survived by his 2 children; daughter, Martha Niehaus (Richard) son, James Mitchell (Mary) and 3 grandchildren, Stephanie, Julia and Ben.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 2nd at 2:00 pm at Toale Brothers Funeral Homes, Colonial Chapel, 40 N. Orange Ave, Sarasota.
