Joseph Murnick of Sarasota, Florida died peacefully on Nov. 16, 2013. Wiegand Brothers will handle the cremation and service will be private at St. Thomas More.
He was born in Chicago, IL and lived in Berwyn, moved to Western Springs, IL, then lived in Lisle, Il. He moved to Sarasota in 1980.
He was born the son of Joseph Murnick and Caroline Rozmarin. He served in WWII in Europe in the Navy aboard PT boats and was a Purple Heart recipient.
For 67 years he was the husband of Harriet (Kocian) Murnick.
He was a member of the VFW, DAV and a lifelong member of the PT Boater organization. He was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He worked for International Harvester for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife Harriet and two children; daughter, Susan (Sawicki) husband, Dr. Steve Sawicki of Muncie, IN, son Joseph and Mary (Garland) Murnick of Lemont, IL; granddaughters, Sarah Sawicki (Thoemke) of Woodbury, MN, Mitzi Sawicki of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. Caitlin Murnick of Nashville, TN and Hadleigh Murnick (Tweedall) of Nashville, TN; great-grandsons: Jackson, Tyler, Cash and Griffin.
