Rosemarie Goecker Lewis Young, PhD passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 29, 2014, after a long illness. She was 74 years old. Rosemarie was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Myrll F. and Wylma Enarson Goecker on August 5, 1939. She attended Council Bluffs, Iowa schools, until moving to Sarasota, Florida in 1956, then graduated from Sarasota High School in 1957, and the University of Florida in 1961. She continued her graduate studies at Stanford University by completing her Masters Degree there, and later received her PhD Degree from the University of New Mexico.
Rosemarie leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Harold Young, and her children Scott Lewis, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Shannon Lewis, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Additional family members include a brother, Robert Goecker, of St. Petersburg, Florida and a sister, Elaine Goecker Smith of Sarasota, Florida, as well as several relatives in her home state of Iowa. Nieces and nephews include Roy Smith of Tallahassee, Dr. Rob Goecker of Bradenton, Heidi Smith Doré of North Port, and Kari Goecker Hendry of Parkland, Florida.
In honor of the many years Rosemarie dedicated to her work as a child psychologist, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
. At her request, no services will be held.
