Neil Sherwood Obituary
Sherwood, Neil
Oct. 25, 1917 - Nov. 16, 2013
Neil Sherwood, most recently of Clearwater, Fl, died on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the age of 96 after a brief illness. Born in Brookings, SD, to Reginald and O'Rilla Sherwood in 1917, Neil spent most of his formative years in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he became an Eagle Scout, graduated from the University of Minnesota, and met his wife Rose (nee Flohil) of Minneapolis.
For most of his 38-year career, Neil was a chemical engineer at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, Ohio. In Avon Lake he served on the planning commission, enjoyed participating in the Mighty Goliath Productions, headed up city softball umpires, served as the president of the B F Goodrich Employees Credit Union, and with Rose raised three children: Michael (Margaret) of Columbus, OH; Steven of San Francisco, CA; and Carol Riddle (Thurm) of Venice, FL.
Neil enjoyed many sports and activities, including golf, tennis, boating, bridge, poker, pool (he was a collegiate champion player), and world travel. His many cruises included a very recent one with his son Michael in March/April of this year. After Rose's death in 1995, Neil met and married in 2005 Gloria (Brown), who preceded him in death in 2011. Along with his children, he is survived by three grandchildren: Sarah Walter (Jason McAnany) of Chicago; Stephen Walter of Elyria; Hannah Sherwood of San Francisco; and a great-grandchild, James McAnany of Chicago.
A private family memorial service is planned. If desired, any donations may be made in Neil's name to the Pine Bend Scout Club Foundation; 1051 McKnight Rd. S; St. Paul, Minnesota 55119.
