Paul H. Kirstein

Paul Kirstein, formerly of Sarasota, born in Tampa, Florida, was nearly 102 when he passed away peacefully on February 27th. A graduate of Hillsborough HS, Tampa, FL, and the University of Florida (BSBA 1934); he supported the exceptional Gator teams with all his heart. He was presented to the Reunion of his fraternity, Tau Epsilon Phi, at the Miami football game last fall as the oldest living brother, via current video technology. Paul, a C.P.A. licensed in New York and Florida; established two accounting firms: Kirstein & Davis, New York, NY and Kirstein & Edsell in Sarasota, FL. He enjoyed business and became a close advisor to each and every client over the course of his long and successful career.
A son of the late Philip Kirstein and Fannie Kirstein Rosenstein, and brother to the late William, he was married to the late Marie E. Kirstein for more than 57 years. Devoted father of Marcia Fitzmaurice (Edward) Washington, DC and Coconut Creek, FL, and Philip Kirstein (Melinda Raso), Princeton, NJ. Proud grandfather of Carey Fitzmaurice (Andrew Schulman), Bethesda, MD; Evan Fitzmaurice, Austin, TX; Harrell Kirstein, Manchester, NH; Jeremiah Kirstein, Stamford, CT; Marielle Kirstein, Princeton, NJ; Loving great-grandfather of Mathieu, Elijah, and Samuel Schulman (Bethesda, MD).
A member of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity, Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Eta Sigma honorary fraternities. Seminole Yearbook staff of 1934; University of Florida NY Alumni Association, University of Florida Alumni Association, 32o Mason - Valley of New York; former board member University Club of Sarasota, and the Senior Friendship Center, Inc.; Century Club of Sarasota Memorial Hospital; Life Member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to Teal Toes Inc., c/o 5200 Glenwood Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20814, a non-profit organization established by Carey to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, or the Senior Friendship Center, Inc. of Sarasota. A memorial service is planned for the spring.
