Richard was an avid golfer, a savvy card player, a lifelong churchgoer, and a beloved friend to many. Richard Edward Berg made his final approach shot into heaven after complications from a stroke. Born in Detroit, MI he graduated from Fort Wayne (IN) South Side High School. He attended Indiana University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, ROTC, and lettered for the golf team. He graduated with a degree in Business Real Estate. He married Patsy Ann Marocco soon after graduation and they remained married for 53 years until her death. He served in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant as a purchasing agent in the Transportation Corps at Fort Eustis, Virginia. While there his first child David was born. After leaving the service, he moved to Indianapolis and took a job with the Scott Paper Company. While in the Indianapolis area, two daughters were born, Barrie and Diane (Dee). Taking a job with Celebrity, Inc he eventually relocated to Atlanta, GA. While in Atlanta he was a member of Northwood Golf Club and Rivermont Country Club. At Rivermont he served as Men's Golf Association President. Nearing retirement he then moved to Sarasota, FL. After retirement, he remained active at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity where he was Chief Usher and organized a parish golf tournament at Rolling Green Golf Club. He was predeceased in death by his wife, Patty, by his parents, William Hubert Berg and Marion Marie Berg (Guest) and by a daughter, Barrie Lynn Berg. He is survived by a brother, William (Michelle) Berg, two children, David (Emily) Berg and Diane "Dee" (Gary) Heger, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Church of the Nativity, 5900 North Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34243. A service will be held in his memory at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. A Life Celebration will be held following starting at 12 noon at Rolling Green Golf Club, 4501 North Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota, FL.
