Richard "Dick" Harlan Johnson, age 85, of Venice, FL, son of the late Thomas and Lora Johnson, husband of Marlene "Mollie" nee Reno, father of Matthew, brother of Judith Whalen, brother-in-law of Thomas and Patricia Reno passed away June 19, 2013.
Dick was born in Ann Arbor, MI and grew up in Saginaw. He attended Arthur Hill High School and went on to Michigan State University but interrupted his studies to enlist in the Army. He was a secret code net operator having been trained in Eta Jima at the Japanese Naval Academy before being sent to Korea. He finished his business degree at MSU where he was a proud member of Psi Upsilon.
Dick loved skiing and still participated and won NASTAR races into his forties. He and Mollie met skiing at Boyne Mountain in 1970 and married shortly thereafter.
Dick also loved tennis and played regularly in the summer at Point Lookout, Au Gres, MI where his beloved speed boat and cottage were located.
Dick worked as an insurance claims adjustor and for Kash n' Karry grocery corp.
Services will be Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:00 am at the National Cemetery in Sarasota followed by brunch in Venice. Those who wish to attend the brunch should contact Dick's family.
