Robert Allan Giacomo, 78, born February 29, 1936, died on Friday, March 14, 2014 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Lee Rice Giacomo of Port Charlotte, FL and his son, Robert H. (Butch) Giacomo and his wife, Stephanie of Charleston, WV; her sons, Ken Rice and his wife, Patti, of San Bernardino, California and Scott Rice of Harrisburg, PA. Bob is also leaving several grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, Hunter, Mason, Gregory, Nicole, Stephannie, Angela, Rene, Chase, Travis and his wife, Yevette, along with 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Edith Zinn Giacomo; his sister, Norma Jean Jeffers; and his parents Albert (Bake) and Margaret Giacomo.
Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his USAF service, he married, then attended college, and graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After college, he was employed by the United States Government and held various positions in the Department of Defense, most notably the Deputy Director of the Theater and Tactical Command, Control and Communications and Intelligence ASD(C3I) division.
Bob then moved to Brussels, Belgium where he was appointed as the General Manager, NATO Air Command and Control System (ACCS) Management Agency (NACMA). He worked and resided in Brussels for 4 years prior to retiring and returning to the United States in 1997.
Bob was recognized as Alumnus of the year in 1996 for the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering by the West Virginia Tech Alumni Association. He has lived the last 11 years in Port Charlotte, FL where he enjoyed golfing and fishing in the warm weather. He was a member of many golfing buddy groups and golfed all over the world. Bob loved traveling and cruised abroad many times in the last 11 years.
Funeral service will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Bible Center Church, 100 Bible Center Dr., Charleston, WV with Rev. Eric Mounts and Rev. Chad Cowan officiating. Burial service will immediately follow at his final resting place at Montgomery Memorial Park, London, WV. Friends may call for visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the Bible Center Church.
