Robert H. "Bob" Stahlschmidt, passed on 12/19/2012. He lived a full life, born on 7/23/1927 to Walter and Viola (Lauer) Stahlschmidt of Evansville Indiana, spending the winters of his childhood attending the Sunshine Elementary School, selling souvenirs to tourists in Pass-A-Grille Beach, St. Petersburg, Florida. Bob spent his summers in Evansville, graduating Reitz High School in 1944. After enrolling at Purdue University, he was called to serve in the US Army/Air Force during WWII as a meteorologist. After serving his country, he attended Indiana University Law School, earning his law degree. Later, he also received his honorary Juris Doctorate from the Nevada Judicial College. He and Barbara Koch were married in 1956, moved to Sarasota in 1958, where their son Robert II was born. Bob was elected to serve as Sarasota County Prosecutor from 1960 to 1972, then served as County judge from 1972 to 1984. His wife Barbara, who is now retired, served the local School Board as a teacher at Brentwood Elementary, then principal at Gulf Gate Elementary until 1985. Since retirement Bob has enjoyed playing tennis, fishing and spending his summers hiking in the mountains. He was a great and loving husband, father and grandfather, leaving behind his wife Barbara, son Robert II "Bob", his wife Alice, and two grandchildren, Daniel and Marie, all residing in Sarasota. We all love and miss our dear opa.
