Ernestine Joyner OXFORD Ernestine Jett Joyner, 66, a resident of 318 Granville St., and a native of Catawba County, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at the UNC Cancer Center in Chapel Hill. She was the daughter of Esther Morgan Jett and the late James Jett, of Catawba County. She was an attorney and respected civil activist. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Lacy L. Joyner; a daughter, Jocelyn J. Simmons, of Snellville, Ga.; a son, Lacy L. Joyner Jr., of Greensboro; two sisters, Nellis Cole, of Flint, Mich. and Joyce Jett, Hickory; five brothers, Jason Jett, of New York, N.Y., Jarrell Jett, of Hickory, Nathaniel Jett, of Columbus, S.C., James Jett Jr., of High Point, and Jerome Jett, of Hermitage, Tenn.; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 15, at 12 p.m., at Furst Baptist Church in Oxford, officiated by the Rev. Edward Davis Jr. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, CB #7295 UNC-CH, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7295. Please state "In Memory of Ernestine Joyner" in the memo line if writing a check or money order. Contributions can also be made online at http://www.unclineberger.org/lineberger.
