Norman Whisnant HICKORY Carrol Norman (Norm) Whisnant, 81, of Hickory passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after two years of declining health. Born July 1, 1931, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Thurman and Hilda Burkett Whisnant. Norm was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a radio broadcaster and managed the Carolina Mall Theaters for many years. Norm retired from the Independent Tribune. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Mary Katherine (Kathy) Whisnant; sister, Martha Anders, of Raleigh; children, Deborah W. Cruz (Lenard), of Dulth, Ga., Tammy Whisnant, of Matthews, twins, Cathy Overcash (Buddy), of Kannapolis and Carolyn Harvell (Gerald), of Concord; grandsons, Michael Pearman, of Hickory, Daniel Santis, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jacob Cruz, of Dulth, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Kristin Drew Santis, of Rockwell, Bradley Norman Santis, of Concord, and Zamar Pearman, of Kannapolis. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., at Catawba Funerals & Cremations, with Pastor Andrew Bell officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside rites will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Oakwood Cemetery, 461 Church St. N, Concord, NC 28025.
