Alton Downs Moore, 76, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Clarewood House after a year long battle with lung and bone cancer. He is survived by his wife, Fern, of 53 years, his sons Stephen and Blake, his brother David, and his loving grandchildren, Ryley, Breana, Carson, Landon and Harrison, his many nieces, nephews and extended family. Born in Nacagdoches, Texas to Rev.William Rubal and Margaret Downs Moore. He lived most of his life in Houston.

Alton was a Sam Houston State University graduate, a CPA who started his career at Haskins & Sells then he worked for Columbia Gulf for 33 years until his retirement. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dearly loved his family. He loved sports, mostly college football and the Texas Longhorns. In his retirement years, he loved to read books, watch movies, listen to music, cook, work puzzles, build model airplanes and cars, and especially making home movies and slide shows of family gatherings.
Visitation will from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home at 3434 South Loop 256, Palestine, Texas on Tuesday, September 10. A graveside service will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, Texas, on Tuesday, September 10 at 5:30 PM. Dr. Paul Clines will be officiating the service.
