Guyler Irvin, 96, of Houston, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5 at 10:00am at the Wallis City Cemetery in Wallis, Texas.
Amanda was born August 13, 1917 in Floresville, Texas, to William Lerert Guyler and Mattie Brandt Guyler, who died in her daughter's infancy. Amanda spent her early years living with her grandparents and her brothers Robert, Samuel, and Bernard in Wallis, Texas, and with her aunt Evelyn Carroll and her husband Charles in Beaumont, Texas. After attending the University of Texas at Austin, Amanda married Robert McNutt Irvin in 1941 and moved to Freeport, Texas. While in Freeport, Amanda was an active member in the First Baptist Church and loved to spend time with her extended family. In 1993, Amanda moved to Houston and spent her last 21 years at The Hallmark. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant son, Thomas Howard Irvin.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leon and Martha Hicks of Beaumont; son, Robert Allen Irvin; grandson and wife, Robert Patrick and Melinda Irvin, and great-grandchildren, Robert James and Claire Elizabeth of Racine, Wisconsin; granddaughter, Emily Jeanette Hicks, of Washington, DC; granddaughter and husband, Amanda Hicks and Benjamin Pritchett, and great-grandchildren, Eloise Carroll and Benjamin Coulter, of Charleston, South Carolina.
