Arthur W. Schnacke, Sr. , 93, died Spetember 5, 2013 in Tomball, Texas from respiratory complications after surgery.|
He is survived by his son Arthur Jr., grandsons Jonathan and David, daughter in law Barbara, sister Winnifred Cahn and step brother Kay Barney. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth in 2000, they were married in 1956. He was also preceded in death by his sister Helen Break and brother in law George Break.
Arthur and family lived in Wyoming, Ohio from 1959-1976 and 1985-2009. He moved to Spring, Texas to live near his son and family in 2009. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, rock climbing and small boat sailing with family and friends.
He was born March 28, 1920 in Lawrence, Kansas to F. Dean and Mary Schnacke. He grew up in Oakwood, Ohio where he graduated from Oakwood High School in 1938. Arthur earned a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Cornell University in 1941 and a B.S.M.E. from Cal Tech in 1943.
He joined the US Naval Reserve in 1943 where he served as a transportation and unloading officer in ACORN 45 at Pt. Sangley on Cavite in the Philippines during WW II; and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Lt. JG.
Arthur worked as a mechanical engineer for the General Electric Company for 37 yrs. He worked for GE in Lynn, Massachusetts, Evendale Ohio, and Schenectady, NY. He retired from GE in 1985.
He was buried next to his wife Betty at Rose-Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, Ohio in a private ceremony September 9, 2013. There will be a memorial service at The Village at Gleannloch in Spring, Texas on Tuesday September 17, 2013 from 2-3 pm.
