GALVESTON: On the evening of Saturday, March 1, 2014, Augustus W. "Bill" Arnold, Jr. age 92 of Galveston went home to be with the Lord while at his residence in Galveston. Funeral services are 10:00 am Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, Rev. Roland Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston at 2:00 pm. under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday.
Born January 20, 1922 in Houston, Texas to Augustus W. Arnold, Sr. and Maude Lee Moore , Bill graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He served four years in the US Marine Corp during WWII, including two years in the Pacific Theater landing at Guam and Okinawa .Rouk Captain. Her co-founded Arnold and Clarke Chemical Company in 1949 and A.W. Arnold and Associates in 1980. He was Past Knight Commander of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem for the Houston area. He was lifetime Vice President of the Dad's Club at the University of Texas and a Deacon at the River Oaks Baptist Church and active member for over thirty years. He retired to Galveston in 1987 and enjoyed his many friends at Pirates Beach and his time spent at West End Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild, Cody Harper, survivors include wife Rhea Arnold; son, A.W. Arnold, III and wife Carol; daughter, Virginia Arnold; step children, Cynthia Butler and husband Randle, Sharon Maetschke and husband Bill, Lea Ann Melancon Harper and William Harper; grandchildren, William Arnold, AKA "IV", Aubrey Arnold and wife Veronica, Caroline Arnold, Julia Arnold, Shauna Allen and husband Jeremy, Lee Slack, Kyle Butler, Jeanne Renee Butler, Klein Maetschke and wife Maggie, Kohl Maetschke, Miranda Baker and husband Russell, Kirsten Melancon, Skye Harper, Stormy Harper; great grandchildren, Noel Allen, Kerianne Allen, Kamilah Melancon, Harrison Maetschke and James Baker; close first cousins, Doris Lansdale Wooldridge and Dionne Wade; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and a multitude of friends.
