Beth Borgman Smith, age 94, passed away on December 13, 2014. Beth was born on November 8, 1919 on a farm near Henrietta, Texas. After graduating from high school, she went to nursing school at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas where her aunt Emma Pope was director of nursing. Her sister Anna Burke Borgman was also a nursing student and they both joined the Army as nurses and served in Europe during World War II. After the war, Beth went to study at the University of Michigan to get a masters degree in public health. While at Michigan she met her future husband Roy H Smith, Jr. They married in 1947. They lived in Pittsburgh, PA for several years where their children Sarah Beth, Philip Hammond and Brian Roy were born. They moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico for a few years then settled in Houston in 1960 and have remained there since.

The last of her generation, Beth is preceded in death by her husband Roy H Smith Jr and her parents, siblings and cousins. She is survived by her daughter Sarah Beth and her sons Philip and wife Dixie, and Brian and wife Nelda. She has 4 granddaughters, Audrey Elaine Phillips, Brandy Nicole Smith, Alison Louise Smith and Julia Beth Smith and one great-granddaughter Vivien Grace Phillips.
Services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, December 16 at 2 p.m. at Westbury United Methodist Church, 5200 Willowbend where she was a member for over 50 years.. Viewing will be at 1 p.m. Beth will be interred at the Veterans Cemetary, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.
