Carl Bass Obituary
Carl Edison Bass, formerly from Houston, Texas, passed away on August 17, 2014 at the age of 93 in Pearland, Texas. He was born on June 18, 1921 in Newton County, Missouri near the town of Sarcoxie to Loren and Ressie Bass. He grew up in Joplin, Missouri and graduated from Joplin High School in 1940.
In 1942, Carl entered the Army Air Corps, graduating from Aviation Mechanics School and later the Cadet Aviation program as a Navigator. He was assigned to the 301st Bomb Group 32nd Squadron. He was sent to Italy where he flew 35 combat missions in the 15th Air Force on a B-17 as a First Lieutenant. In 1952, he was recalled to active duty in the US Air Force for the Korean War.
He graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1950 with a BS degree in Engineering. He worked 18 years for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He moved to Houston, Texas in 1970, where he worked as a Structural Engineer for various engineering firms. Mr. Bass was a Professional Engineer in the state of Oklahoma and Texas. He retired in January 1986.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joyce May Edwards Bass.
Carl is survived by three sons, John Bass and wife, Sherry, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and their children, Jennifer and husband, Beau, Robert and wife Susan, William and wife Dr. Jacqueline; Carl Bass and wife, Judy, of Kingwood, Texas, and their children, Jillian, Caitlin and Stephanie; and Rev. James Bass and wife, Deborah, of Friendswood, Texas, and their children, Jeremy and Jason; one daughter, Carol Reed and husband, Dale, of Livingston, Texas, and their son, Dillon; and his sister, Frances Hansen, of Hemet, California; Brother-in-law, Galen Edwards and wife MaryAnn of Joplin; as well as a nephew, Ronald Hansen; and five nieces, Anita Davis, Gayle Sawyer, Karen Edwards Mattes, Susie Edwards and Ann Edwards Ford; and other friends.
Carl, along with his wife Joyce, will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri.
