Caspie Haynes , 73, was called home to eternal life in heaven on October 7, 2013. Caspie was born July 14, 1940 to Benno and Etta Mae (Polk) Haynes in Columbus, Texas. He grew up in Palacios, Texas.

While attending Prairie View A&M University, he met his lovely bride, Elsie Ann Washington. In 1965, upon graduation as one of the first African American mechanical engineers in the country, Caspie and his wife married, and he began a 30-year career with NASA and Travelers/Citigroup. The couple had two children, Clifford B. and Ava Y. Haynes. Caspie was actively involved in church and community until shortly before death, having served for many years as a Sunday School Superintendent, Crestmont Civic Club officer, and church Elder. He loved to spend time with his family, especially grandson Isaac.
Caspie is survived by his daughter, Ava Mathis (husband James); grandson, Isaac Haynes; brothers, Walter Haynes, Earnest Haynes, and Robert Haynes; sisters Lurlene Russell and Helen Davis; an aunt, Willie Mae Dunn; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, church members, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, and brothers, Otis and Jerry Haynes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 10-10:55 a.m., Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., both services will be held at Conquerors Bible Fellowship Church, 4616 Broadway, Pearland, TX, with Rev. Michael Boston, Officiating, Interment Paradise South.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Conquerors BF Church.
