Celeste Burch Obituary
Celeste Adveline Burch, 76, of West Columbia Texas passed away at their home on Monday June 10, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 4, 1937 in Vinton, LA to Harry Peyton Fontenot and Anne Lillian LeBlanc Fontenot. Celeste graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont, TX in 1955, and formed lifelong friendships with the Greenie Girls. She attended Lamar University where she met Robert Burch, and married in 1956. Home for 32 years was Houston, TX, where Celeste was a homemaker, Civic Association President, and PTA President at Pine Shadows Elementary School and Northbrook High School. Later employed by Spring Branch ISD for 14 years, she transitioned to Legislative Aide for Texas House Representative District 149. When Robert retired, the couple moved to Bandera County where Celeste fulfilled a lifelong goal of finishing her college education, graduating with a B.S. in Education from The University of Texas at San Antonio, then teaching elementary school for 6 years. Upon her retirement, she stayed active as an avid quilter and St. John's Catholic Church volunteer in the Altar Guild and numerous ministries.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Burch of West Columbia; sons, Scott A. Burch and wife, Linda, of Sugar Land; and Brian Burch of Houston; daughter Julie Beth Hickl and husband, Dale, of Houston; grandchildren, Matthew C. Burch and wife, Christen; Hannah Louise Burch; Jamie Marie Burch; Lauren Celeste Hickl; and Brooke Elizabeth Hickl; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Anne Stockwell; sister, Judy Fontenot Sandella, and husband, MIke, of Pearland; and all her precious cousins in Texas and Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Anne Fontenot, godfather Virgil LeBlanc and godmother Gladys LeBlanc Valentine.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 14, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church in West Columbia with Father Wayne Wilkerson officiating. A rosary will be recited at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2013. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Scott Burch, Brian Burch, Dale Hickl, Matthew Burch; and nephews Daryl Harvey, Clay Harvey, Kyle Harvey, Brent Burch, Kent Burch, and Greg Burch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ALS ( Lou Gehrig's ) Association.
