Claire Elaine Coale, of Houston, Texas, went to be with the Lord November 21st, 2012, at home after a heroic battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in the arms of her husband, John Matson Coale.

She is survived by daughters Sarah Constance and Allison Claire Coale, brothers John Whelan, David Whelan and sister Helen Mahnke, nieces Victoria and Catherine Whelan, nephews Andrew and Marcus Whelan and Shane Mahnke. She also leaves behind aunts and uncles and so very many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her father, John Whelan. She deeply touched and was loved by all who met her.
She graduated from University of Texas, Austin and later Physical Therapy at University of Texas, San Antonio. She worked as physical therapist for the Houston Ballet for many years, but later devoted her life to her family, raising her two beautiful daughters while enjoying marathon running, quilting, and Tae Kwon Do. As a testament to her strength, after her first diagnosis of cancer she achieved her black belt, then following her first relapse went on to her second degree black belt. She was a favorite of everyone who cared for her through her battle, and carried herself with courage and humor that left all amazed at her strength and faith.
Claire lived her life as an example to everyone, with extraordinary wit and a beautiful laugh.
