Clifford J. Ellis, age 96, passed away at Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Houston, Texas on October 10, 2013. He was born in Newell, Iowa on July 26, 1917 to Lorin E. Ellis and Martha Point Ellis.

He graduated from Newell High in 1934 and from the University of Iowa College of Business in 1941. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1941.
In the 50s he worked as European Operations Manager and then CEO for Humble Oil in Switzerland. Upon settling in Houston, TX he pursued a highly successful career in commercial real estate development.
C.J. Ellis was an avid golfer, world traveler, and accomplished sailor. He was a humble, intensely private man, and a gifted entrepreneur. Sailing was his passion and over the years, he owned several boats. Those who knew him will forever hold the memory of him at the helm of his sailboat Sea Jay.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wayne E. Ellis and Leighton E. Ellis. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Linda Katmarian, Scott Ellis, Lance Ellis, Stephen Ellis, and Martha Ellis.
Cliff's ashes will be scattered in Galveston Bay.
