Donald Arthur Buckner passed away on July 29, 2014. He was 89 years old. He was born on October 14, 1924 in Pine Hill, Texas to Arthur and Mattie Mae Buckner. He grew up in Houston and attended San Jacinto High School. He graduated from Rice University and then served in the Navy as an Ensign in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After returning from active service he attained a Law Degree from the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the Law Review.

Donald served as a General Attorney for Texaco in Houston, Atlanta and New York. He returned to Houston to finish his career as head of the Legal Department.
He enjoyed many years of following the growth of Rice University. He enjoyed golf, tennis, traveling, and painting. He left a number of beautiful paintings for his extended family.
Donald was very proud of his children and their families. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 64 years. He is also survived by his son, Donald Arthur Buckner, Jr. (Christine) and his daughter, Betsy Polstra (Dave) and 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Bob Buckner (Diana) and niece, Brenda Buckner. He is also survived by an aunt and cousins.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he did volunteer work with Operation I.D. A memorial service is to be held at First Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2nd, with Bill Heston officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rice University or First Presbyterian Church.
